Sat in some old cars today. Here are my quick thoughts on the interiors.

Went to see a friend who works for a guy who shifts oldtimers, mostly big old Mercs. Here are the cars I sat in and checked out. I was too stupid to remember to take my own photos, so these are from Google. Here's what I remember now.

Kinja'd!!!

Porsche 912 Targa.

Lovely. Simple dash, but pedals not centered, but to the right. I was told this is true of all porsches?

Kinja'd!!!

914.

Tiny cockpit. I looked through the rear windshield just as my friend released the rear hood, and it just shoots up towards the windshield, scared me to hell.
Lovely looking air filter.

Kinja'd!!!

Alfa Spider with a 'Graduate' badge.

The long trunk really bothers me, ruins the proportions for me. Lovely interior, very easy to read dials. It just transforms you into a handsome Italian, gesturing away at ladies on the sidewalk.

Kinja'd!!!

I think this was a 57' Chevy pickup.

It was in turquise with lovel patina. You really do have to climb into it. And I was surprised how smaller the interior was on the inside than it seems. And the driving position is ridiculous, it's like you're crouching. Could be that it's just not set right... All of these cars are in the process of being restored, so they're not complete. And you really feel cocooned in all that metal. The doors make a huge bang as they slam shut.

Kinja'd!!!

Cadillac Seville. This one, with the silly trunk.

It's a sofa on wheels. Velour seats, buttoned like a chesterfield couch. Brick red. Everything is electric. The armrests are weirdly placed right down next to your seat, so it connects the front two seats, but it wasn't a bench seat... Fake wire wheels. On the dash 80's electronic computer screens lol. Cool.

Kinja'd!!!

A 60's Beetle.

I've wanted to get in one of these for a looong time. And it's just as great as I imagined it. Just as spartan. The doors are thin, the dash is tiny, and the steering wheel is thinner than a toothpick. I had to lean forward quite a bit to reach first gear lol. It's just lovely, all the chliches are true.

Kinja'd!!!

A bunch of Benzes from this and next generation.

They're massive. One of them was a coupe like the one pictured, in mint condition, but black with tan leather interior. And by leather, I mean LEATHER. Lovely, creamy, scented, plush leather. It's an event for all the senses. Smells fantastic, it begs you to touch it and smell it, I was this close to licking it. And the chrome, oh god. It's wonderful. It's not in your face , but just in thin strips on the dash and on the steering wheel. Oh, and the steering wheel. It's so thin, so delicate. But still, it feels like a sturdy thing, it doesn't feel fragile. Neither does anything in this car, really. There's also deep, dark wood on the dash, just enough to appreciate it. I can really understand where Mercedes Benz got the reputation it has. And it deserves it, at least these cars do. I'm blown away still at how nice a place it is to be in.

I'll daydream of those leather seats and upholstery for days...
